Designation: DO - Spain
The Denominación de Origen (DO) program, or “Designation of Origin”, exists to regulate the quality and geographical origin of some of Spain’s finest products.
Products labeled as DO must be made with raw materials from a specific geographical region using production techniques established by the program’s governing body, the Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación (the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food). As a result, certified products are expected to carry characteristics distinctive to their region or the individual producer. To bear the official seal, they are also required to be of a superior quality.
