Jarlsberg® (“yarulz-burg”) is a popular semi-soft cheese made from pasteurized part-skim cow’s milk. It has a pleasantly mild, sweet and nutty flavor and a rich, buttery texture, but is best recognized by its golden yellow interior and Swiss-style holes. Jarlsberg® cheese was originally created by the University of Agriculture in Norway in an attempt to produce a domestic version of Switzerland’s Emmental cheese. The resulting creation has been exported to the United States since 1965. Its versatility makes it an ideal choice for hot dishes, salads and cheese platters.
