Translating to “barrel” in English, Le Tonneau® is a symbolic semi-soft cheese of the Swiss culture with a robust, world-class flavor. In winters past, mountain villages in the Alps would often become snowbound and cut off from their valley neighbors. Their only option was to preserve their food in barrels of brine – similar to the historical rotund shape of this cheese. Made from the milk of Alpine cows that graze amidst the mountain landscape, this rustic cheese has a full-flavored, nutty and slightly fruity taste with a tangy finish. With a distinctive aroma and dense, creamy texture, Le Tonneau® has the ability to turn heads with its rustic, grooved-barrel appearance.
