Danish Blue cheese was originally invented by the Danes in 1927 as an alternative to Roquefort, however its strongly piquant, slightly salty flavor quickly garnered the cheese a dedicated following of its own. Danish Blue is perhaps best recognized by its milky white paste marbled with telltale blue veins, but is most regarded for its bold “bite” and delicate, slightly crumbly texture.
Danish Blue’s decidedly rustic flavor adds spiciness to salads and makes for a distinctive addition to any cheese board. Its versatility allows it to shine when paired with fruits and breads as well.
